RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Equity and Human Relations Advisory Committee (EHRAC) receive and file a report from the Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations regarding Hate Crimes in Los Angeles County and Culver City.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

At the July 25, 2023, meeting in discussion regarding the workplan, Member Rona expressed a desire to add Hate Crimes to the discussion as an area of focus, to which staff responded that such an item was being considered and that additional information would be shared. The Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations reached out to staff in January 2023 to request an opportunity to partner, which resulted in the recent announcement of The Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations presentation of the most recently published Hate Crime Reports with a focus on Culver City and related crimes to EHRAC and the Culver City Community, scheduled for September 26, 2023.

At the August 22, 2023, special meeting, Member Rona indicated with agreement from Chair Valverde and Vice Chair Bano that Hate Crimes Report event was not an approved EHRAC item, however a consensus was achieved to hold a special meeting on September 26, 2023, that would include attending the presentation and participating in the discussion.

FISCAL ANALYSIS

There is no fiscal impact associated with this discussion.
