BACKGROUND: Each year PRCS Management staff accompanies the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission on one or more tours of Culver City parks and facilities. City Council members are always invited to join the Commission on these tours. This year, recently appointed City Manager John Nachbar accepted the Commission’s invitation to participate in the tours. The purpose of the tours is to familiarize appointed and elected officials with the conditions at the public parks. During the tour, elected and appointed officials have the opportunity to make observations and ask questions of staff. Staff engages in a dialogue with tour participants, takes them to sites of recent and upcoming capital improvement projects and provides information regarding a variety of issues relating to Culver City parks and facilities. DISCUSSION: This year two tours were conducted, one on Saturday, September 25 and one on Saturday, October 2, 2010. Because the Commission had added a “Presentation by the Parks Division regarding Priorities and Upcoming Projects” to the “Tentative List of Upcoming Agenda Items,” Parks Manager Patrick Reynolds provided Park Tour City of Culver City, California Agenda Item Report participants with a handout titled Parks Managers’ Presentation on Accomplishments and Upcoming Projects in Culver City Parks on each of the tours. This gave both staff and attendees an opportunity to engage in a more vital and interactive presentation of these important topics during the on-site visits. A copy of the September 25, 2010 Parks Managers’ Presentation is provided as an Attachment. The October 2, 2010 Parks Manager’s Presentation will be provided at the tour and will also be made available to the Commission at the October 5, 2010 meeting. The itinerary of the tours was as follows: Saturday, September 25, 2010 Saturday, October 2, 2010 Culver City Historical Society (at VMB) Culver West Alexander Park Veterans’ Memorial Park Tellefson Park Carlson Park Blanco Park Coombs Park El Marino Park Lindberg Park Culver City Park / Park to Playa Trail Connection Fox Hills Park Linwood E.
