RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council accept donations of equipment and services, as
detailed in this report, to the City for use in the Parks, Recreation and Community
Services (PRCS) Department from the Culver City Senior Citizens Association
(CCSCA) and Team Santa Monica (TSM).
BACKGROUND:
The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department has received donations
of equipment and services over the past two years and is requesting that the City
Council officially accept these gifts on behalf of the City. The donors are the CCSCA
and TSM.
The CCSCA is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization that has worked in partnership
with the Culver City Senior Center for many years. Throughout the years, the
CCSCA has (1) regularly made cash donations to the City which benefitted the
Senior Center, (2) often underwrites programs and activities, and (3) occasionally
purchases equipment and supplies for the use of Senior Center participants.
TSM is a swim club serving Culver City, Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Venice,
Marina del Rey, Beverly Hills, Brentwood, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Redondo
Beach, and the Westside of Los Angeles. TSM is a non-profit, parent-run
organization that has been a regular renter at the Culver City Municipal Plunge for
several years. TSM offers training for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. Their City of Culver City, California

age-specific training is geared towards challenging each individual and developing
each individual to the best of their ability. As evidence of the high quality,
comprehensive competitive training offered by T SM, in 2012 the organization had
three Olympic Trials qualifiers and a number of swimmers at the U.S. Nationals and
U.S. Open Qualifiers, the Junior Nationals and National Club Swimming Association
Junior Qualifiers, the Sectional Team Qualifiers, and the 2012 Paralympic Trials.
DISCUSSION:
During Fiscal Year 2011/2012 and continuing into Fiscal Year 2012/2013, the
CCSCA has made the following donations to the City for use at the Culver City
Senior Center:

*The CCSCA is requesting that, once the City determines that the computers are no
longer useful or needed, they are given back to CCSCA in order to be salvaged in
some manner.
In May 2011, TSM made a donation to the Culver City Municipal Plunge of three
lane dividers officially called the “Turnmaster Pro” by FINIS. The Turnmaster Pro is
a portable lane bulkhead designed to maximize lane usage. Easily installed in
minutes, the Turnmaster Pro is suspended between two lane ropes, dividing one
lane into two. Its streamlined design prevents drag in the water and extends
seamlessly across pool lanes, increasing practice space and the area available for
underwater drills. The value of the donation is $4,380.

Members of the CCSCA and TSM have been invited to attend this evening’s
meeting.
FISCAL ANALYSIS:
The equipment and services donated by the CCSCA and TSM, if accepted by the
City Council, will offset expenditures that may have been incurred by the General
Fund for the general upkeep and maintenance of the Senior Center, Teen Center,
and Plunge and their programs. Taken together, the value of these generous
donations is $23,771.
MOTION:
That the City Council:
Accept donations of equipment and services to the City for use in the Parks,
Recreation and Community Services Department from the Culver City Senior
Citizens Association (with the requirement that the computers be returned to the
CCSCA upon determination by staff they have become obsolete) and Team
Santa Monica.
