BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
This will be the 33rd annual re-authorization of funding for programs and services for
the elderly under the Older Americans Act. The Culver City Senior Nutrition Program
receives these grant funds through the Los Angeles County Department of
Community and Senior Services Area Agency on Aging (AAA). This grant provides
limited funding to 22 non-profit organizations and municipalities in Los Angeles
County to manage over 100 nutrition sites that provide well-balanced nutritional
meals that meet USDA guidelines.
Currently, participants are requested to make a donation of $2.25 per meal (AAA
range is $1.50 to $2.50) and during Fiscal Year 2006-07 participants donated
$75,206. Culver City’s per meal cost is $2.93 and they are served to seniors
weekdays at the Culver City Senior Center and seven days a week to Home
Delivered Meal Program clients. Through its staff and volunteers, the Nutrition
Program served an average of 2,778 meals per month at the Center and an average
of 566 Home Delivered meals to Culver City residents during Fiscal Year 2007-08
