City of Culver City, California
City Council Agenda Item Report
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council consider a fee waiver request made by the
Culver City Exchange Club (the “Exchange Club”) for the Culver City Car Show.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The Culver City Exchange Club is proposing to host the Fourth Annual Culver City
Car Show on May 12th. As proposed, the car show would be presented in the same
general area as in the prior three years: along Culver Boulevard from Duquesne
Avenue to the south and Ince Boulevard on the north.
DISCUSSION
In 2006, staff recommended, and City Council approved, a fee waiver requested by
the Exchange Club and the Culver City Downtown Business Association, who were
then the joint promoters of the event. Tonight the City Council is asked to consider
the subject of the fee waiver for this year’s event. The Exchange Club has also
submitted a Special Event Permit application which will be heard by the Committee
on Permits and Licenses (the “Committee”). The Committee has authorized permits
for this event in each of the prior years.
Mr. Jeff Cooper, representative of the Exchange Club, has submitted information to
staff related to the planned layout of the 2007 Car Show. After evaluating this
information, staff has estimated City costs associated with the Car Show to be
approximately $15,000. These costs would be incurred primarily for the staff time by
the Public Works and Police Departments. Mr. Cooper has requested the City
Council grant a fee waiver.

FISCAL ANALYSIS
The City’s costs associated with the Car Show are primarily staff time and estimated
at $15,000. Unless a fee waiver is granted by the City Council, staff would invoice
the Exchange Club for the actual costs incurred. Alternately, should the City Council
grant the fee waiver, the additional costs would not be reimbursed and would be
absorbed by the City’s General Fund.
