RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Civil Service Commission approve the new recruitment bulletin for Accounting Supervisor.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Accounting Supervisor position is assigned to the to Finance Department, General Accounting Division. This classification is responsible for performing and overseeing professional accounting activities, for the City and the Successor Agency. This position is intended to provide a higher level of analytical support to the Accounting Manager and greater oversight and mentorship to the Accountant and Accountant II positions. It will also expand the growth potential for the Accountant and Accountant II positions. Over recent years, the volume of the City’s financial transactions has increased along with the City’s budget. The added Accounting Supervisor position is designed to improve internal accounting processes and create greater efficiencies.
Recruitment Bulletin
The recruitment bulletin (Attachment 1) is reflective of the classification specification. The proposed examination components and weights for the Accounting Supervisor position include a written and oral appraisal interview examination are weighted at 50% each. These recommended examination components and respective weights are consistent with similar classifications.
AUTHORITY
The Commission’s authority to approve new or revised recruitment bulletins is outlined in the Civil Service Rules (CSR) 6.4:
6.4 Commission Approval: Where an examination is required, the Human Resources Director shall prepare a Job Bulletin and forward it to the Commission for approval. It shall not be necessary to obtain additional Commission approval of a Job Bulletin if there have been no changes in the minimum requirements, or examination components.
