RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS)
Commission review the upcoming agenda items to be considered by the
Commission and its Subcommittees, make comments, if any, and receive and file
the report.
BACKGROUND:
At the PRCS Commission’s request, staff has prepared this report as a recurring
agenda item to give the Commissioners an opportunity to review agenda items for
the upcoming 90 days. Although this item typically appears on the Consent
Calendar, staff is presenting it as an Action Item to give the members of the
Commission an opportunity to have a dialogue with the Acting PRCS Director
regarding the scheduling of upcoming agenda items.
DISCUSSION:
Issues and items for Commission consideration may be generated through many
sources including the public, staff, the Commission and its Subcommittees and
Council Advisory Committees and by direction or action of the City Council. At
Commission meetings, information is generally conveyed to the Commission through
presentations, public comment, staff reports, information included in commission
packets and comments made by Commissioners and staff. These types of
communication between the Commission, the public, staff and the City Council
enable the Commission to fulfill its mission. City of Culver City, California

At the PRCS Commission Meeting of April 6, 2010, Commissioners outlined items of
interest which they would like to see brought to the Commission as agenda items,
staff updates and/or subcommittee work programs; this list is provided below.
• Follow up presentation on Global Youth Service Day activities
• Plans for vacated Plains Exploration & Production Company land in Culver City
Park (i.e. former oil well sites)
• Expansion of community garden program
• Review/possible restructuring of PRCS Commission Subcommittees
• Review changes to PRCS Commission roles and responsibilities resulting from
proposed amendments to the CCMC (recommended and approved at the
04/05/2010 City Council meeting); possibly a study session
• Information about tree species, process of selecting/recommending appropriate
trees and the City Street Trees Master Plan; possibly a study session
• Update on how State budget cuts will affect PRCS services to the community
• Scheduling the annual Park Tours (2) and including Members of the City Council
and CCUSD School Board
• Review of park ordinances; possibly a study session
o Review of Dog Park ordinances
• Exploration of lighting at the Dog Park
• Funding Opportunities: 501(c)(3) alternatives and park memorials
• Status of the Creek to Parks connection trail in Culver City Park
• Next steps in the Parks and Recreation Master Plan process
• Community events in parks: approval processes, monitoring and enforcement
• Presentation by the Parks Division on priorities and upcoming projects
• Presentation from the new City Animal Control Officer
At the meeting staff will provide brief comments or updates on some of these items.
Staff reviewed the remaining items and developed a tentative timeline of when these
items can be expected to be brought before the Commission; this tentative list is
attached. In developing the timeline Staff sought to incorporate the amount of time
needed to research the necessary information while also attending to the ongoing
needs of the City Council, City Manager and the PRCS Department as a whole.
Dates that Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department items are
currently scheduled for consideration by the City Council are also noted in the
attached tentative list of upcoming Commission agenda items. It is hoped that this City of Culver City, California

information will give the members of the Commission a more comprehensive view of
possible upcoming agenda items. Due to the interactive nature of municipal
government, scheduling dates of agenda items and the topics to be presented are
subject to change.
FISCAL ANALYSIS:
There is no fiscal impact associated with the discussion of this Agenda Item.
