RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council:
1. Accept the work performed by Steiny and Company, Inc. for the construction of
Washington Boulevard Traffic Signal Improvement Project, P-909;
2. Authorize filing a Notice of Completion;
3. Approve the final construction contract amount of $223,152.25; and;
4. Authorize the release of the retention funds in the amount of $22,315.23 after the
expiration of the thirty-five day lien period.
BACKGROUND:
On June 28, 2010, the City Council approved a construction contract with Steiny and
Company, Inc. for the construction of a new traffic signal at the intersection of
Washington Boulevard and McLaughlin Avenue, new ADA accessible curbs, and
repaving a portion of the McLaughlin Avenue just north of Washington Boulevard.
Additionally, as part of this signal improvement project, the northbound traffic
signal at the intersection of Washington Boulevard/Berryman Avenue was modified
to only allow easterly and westerly turning movements on Washington Boulevard.
The temporary delineated diverter at the intersection was removed at the
completion of the project. City of Culver City, California

DISCUSSION:
Steiny and Company, Inc. successfully completed the work on February 23, 2011.
The construction management was performed by Staff with the construction
inspection and geotechnical construction services provided by CMB Consulting Inc.,
and Zieser-Kling Consultants Inc., respectively, through the city’s on-call engineering
and inspection contracts.
The City Council approved a $28,840 contingency contract amount. A change order
in the amount of $30,873.25 was approved for quantity adjustments and to pay for
extra work due unforeseen field conditions encountered during construction. A
portion of the roadway pavement was reconstructed at the northwest corner of
Washington Boulevard and McLaughlin Avenue to improve local surface drainage.
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the final contract amount of
$223,152.25. There are sufficient funds in the project budget (41800909).
