RECOMMENDATION

BACKGROUND & DISCUSSION
As a continuation of the December 2024 and January 2025 CAC meeting, the complete Background & Discussion for this item can be found on the attached Staff Reports dated 12/17/2024 and 1/21/2025.
On January 21, 2025 CAC members reviewed five programmatic proposals from members of the public including:
• David Mack on behalf of Artist Magnet Justice Alliance for a proposed CCLA28 festival including pop-up performances and activations at multiple locations in Culver City and beyond in collaboration with multiple performing arts organizations and venues.
• Alicia Ide and Jim Clarke on behalf of Culver City Arts Foundation (CCAF), regarding an arts space activation including the possibility for a new municipal arts center, a Film Festival, Gateway art, and City support for the CCAF Mural Project and a CCAF art and historical tour app.
• Jeff Morrical, an artist and resident of Culver City Arts District, regarding the Arts District existing tree surrounds as either a preservation or reinterpretation project;
• Glen Ward on behalf of the Jazz Bakery, regarding a collaborative multi-date, multi-location Jazz festival; and
• Ehsaan Mesghali, Cultural Affairs Commissioner in collaboration with Culver City Sister City Committee regarding a multi-cultural art and music festival.
Following presentations, CAC members requested to receive more information from Staff regarding other potential programming ideas and concepts that have been proposed by the public but not included in the presentations.
Staff will present an overview of the proposed Olympics programs and activations as well as make recommendations about best practices for selecting and supporting projects and working with arts and cultural partners. The presentation will consider the proposals received in December and January as well as take into context the various planning meetings that have occurred within Culver City and with other municipal and cultural partners over the past two years.
DISCUSSION
CAC is asked to review the Staff presentation and provide feedback and recommendations to be considered by the City’s Ad Hoc 2025 and 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2028 Summer Olympics Subcommittee, which is comprised of Mayor O’Brien and Vice Mayor Puza. The City’s Olympics Subcommittee will review CAC recommendations as well as the recommendations from other City departments and community groups to make an overall recommendation to City Council regarding Olympics-related programs and initiatives later in the year.
