City Council Agenda Item Report
On behalf of Caltrans, LADOT determined the cost and feasibility of having a
northbound left turn phase included as part of the widening project. The cost to
design and construct the northbound left turn phase is estimated to be $40,000.
LADOT is receptive to accomplishing this effort as part of the widening project to
which Culver City has already committed $90,000 for our portion of the grant’s
matching funds.
Installation of the separate northbound left turn traffic signal phase will greatly
benefit traffic flow and safety at this intersection. Staff recommends that $40,000 be
appropriated from the Playa Vista Traffic Mitigation Fund to the project. Work is
expected to occur this fiscal year.
FISCAL ANALYSIS:
The project currently has $90,000 of Gas Tax Funds appropriated for the matching
funds. The $40,000 in Play Vista Traffic Mitigation funds being requested is in
addition to the $90,000 already appropriated. Playa Vista Traffic Mitigation funds
currently has approximately $1.6 million available for capital improvements.
MOTION:
That the City Council:
1) Approve a budget amendment to appropriate $40,000 from Playa Vista Traffic
Mitigation Funds account number 420212270 to the budget line item 42000851,
Sawtelle Boulevard widening at Venice Boulevard, P-851.
A 4/5
th
vote is required to approve the budget amendment.
