RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council acknowledge the departure of Council Members Sahli-Wells and Small, whose terms have ended.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The five-member elected City Council is the legislative body for the City of Culver City. As such, they are responsible for providing policy direction for the City. In their policy-making role, major activities of the City Council include identifying the needs of the community and translating them into programs and services; establishing general objectives for City program activities and service levels; reviewing and adopting the annual City budget, as well as ordinances and resolutions; approving major purchases and contracts; and serving as the governing body of the Successor Agency to the Culver City Redevelopment Agency, the Culver City Parking Authority, the Culver City Housing Authority, and the Redevelopment Financing Authority.
All members of the City Council serve on a part-time basis and are responsible for appointing the City Manager, City Attorney, Fire Chief and Police Chief.
Council Member Meghan Sahli-Wells: Having served two consecutive full terms as a Council Member, Vice Mayor and, historically, as the first woman to serve as Mayor twice, Council Member Sahli-Wells has reached her term limit as described in Section 601 of the City Charter. Her service of eight years on the City Council is complete this evening. Council Member Thomas Aujero Small: After serving the City as Council Member, Vice Mayor and Mayor, Council Member Small has completed one full, four-year term in office. Members of the City Council and public may provide well wishes for the departing Council Members.
Upon conclusion of such remarks, the City Clerk shall request that Council Members Sahli-Wells and Small virtually step down from the dais by turning off their video and join their families and friends as attendees for the administration of the oath of office to the Council Members-Elect.
