RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council’s approval of an extra work change order, in the amount of $12,217.21, to the existing contract with MMJ Contracting, Inc., (MMJ), for Fire Station #1, (located at 9600 Culver Boulevard), Phase 1 build-out of three new dormitory rooms, Project, CIP No. PF-013.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
In May 2022, the City Manager administratively approved a construction contract with MMJ Contracting, Inc., in the amount of $49,886.00, for the Fire Station #1, (located at 9600 Culver Boulevard), Phase 1 build-out of three new dormitory rooms. During construction, per the direction of the Fire Department, the existing First-in Fire Station Alerting System was expanded, to cover each of these new dorm rooms. The cost to purchase and install this system in each of the three dorm rooms was negotiated at a fair and reasonable cost of $12,217.21.
Westnet's First-In Fire Station Alerting System is a zoned notification system utilizing a series of remote alerting modules placed strategically throughout the fire station to notify fire and EMS personnel of an emergency call in the quickest, safest, and most advanced means possible.
Per CCMC section 3.07.050.B, the City Manager has the authority to approve contracts under $50,000. The extra work change order amount of $12,217.21 exceeds the City Manager’s authority due to the original contract amount having been $49,886. Therefore, staff recommends that the City Council approve the extra work change order to MMJ’s contract.
FISCAL ANALYSIS
The MMJ contract amount is $49,886.00. With the approval of the extra work change order in the amount of $12,217.21, the total contract amount will be increased to $62,103.21. Sufficient funds to cover the cost of the extra work were included in the Revised Budget for Fiscal Year 2022-2023 in CIP No. PF013 (Fire Station Renovations).
