RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS)
Commission review 2009 schedule of Commission meetings.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
It is customary for the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission to
set the meeting schedule for the next calendar year at its July meeting and to review
that schedule once again during the first meeting of the New Year. At the July 1,
2008 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, after confirming that there were
no scheduling conflicts due to legal or religious holidays and/or the unavailability of
the Council Chambers, the Commission approved the following list of scheduled
meetings for 2009 (moved by Commissioner Daly Redholtz; seconded by Chair
Cooper; passed unanimously 4-0, with one Commission vacancy):

This schedule indicates that PRCS Commission meetings will be held on the first
Tuesday of each month, without exception. Unless special arrangements are made
due to extenuating circumstances, all meetings in calendar year 2009 are scheduled
to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Mike Balkman Council Chambers at City Hall.
In reviewing the 2009 schedule of meetings, staff requests that the Commission
propose alternate dates if there are any previously unforeseen scheduling conflicts.
A list of 2009 Federal and City of Culver City Holidays (Attachment A) and a 2009
Interfaith Calendar (Attachment B) have been provided for reference.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact associated with this agenda item.

Federal law (5 U.S.C. 6103) establishes the following public holidays for Federal
employees. Please note that most Federal employees work on a Monday through
Friday schedule. For these employees, when a holiday falls on a non-workday --
Saturday or Sunday -- the holiday usually is observed on Monday (if the holiday falls on
Sunday) or Friday (if the holiday falls on Saturday).

scheduled to perform non-overtime work on Inauguration Day, is entitled to a holiday. (See 5 U.S. C.
6103(c).) There is no in-lieu-of-holiday for employees who are not regularly scheduled to work on
Inauguration Day.
* This holiday is designated as 'Washington's Birthday" in section 6103(a) of title 5 of the United
States Code, which is the law that specifies holidays for Federal employees. Though other institutions
such as state and local governments and private businesses may use other names, it is our policy to
always refer to holidays by the names designated in the law.
** July 4, 2009 (the legal public holiday for Independence Day), falls on a Saturday. For most Federal
