RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS)
Commission hear a report from the Council/Commission Subcommittee, hold a
discussion with City Manager Mr. John Nachbar and receive and file the report.
BACKGROUND:
Mr. John Nachbar, City Manager of the City of Culver City, was formally introduced
to the members of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission at
the September 7, 2010 Commission meeting. At that time, a discussion between the
Commission and the City Manager took place which included various topics, such as
the Commission’s duties and responsibilities, communication between the
Commission and staff and the Commission and the City Council and potential ways
to improve such communications.
During the course of the meeting, the Commission requested that the City Manager
meet with the Commission’s Council/Commission Subcommittee and invited him to
come back before the full Commission for further discussion. The City Manager
agreed to meet with the Council/Commission Subcommittee and accepted the
Commission’s invitation to attend a future Commission meeting. Although it was
anticipated that the meeting between the Subcommittee and the City Manager would
occur before the December 7, 2010 PRCS Commission meeting and thus be
discussed at that meeting, the Subcommittee meeting was rescheduled and the
related agenda item was postponed until this evening’s meeting.

DISCUSSION:
On Thursday, December 16, 2010 the PRCS Commission Council/Commission
Subcommittee met with City Manager Mr. John Nachbar, Deputy City Attorney
Heather Baker and Acting PRCS Director Pam Robinson. This agenda item has
been prepared to give the Council/Commission Subcommittee an opportunity to
report back to the full Commission on this recent meeting and to hold another
discussion between the PRCS Commission and the City Manager at an open
meeting, as previously agreed upon by all parties.
FISCAL ANALYSIS:
There is no fiscal impact associated with the discussion of this Agenda Item.
MOTIONS:
That the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission:
1. Hear a report from the Council/Commission Subcommittee; and,
2. Hold a discussion with City Manager Mr. John Nachbar; and,
3. Receive and file the report.
