BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) members will receive a report from a representative from Culver City Walk ‘n Rollers regarding plans for an education event in the tri-school area to be held on April 22, 2025, which is Earth Day. The event is currently titled “Elenda Earth Day Celebration Event.”
BPAC members can provide input regarding all aspects of the event.
Event Details
The event will be held along Elenda St between Farragut Dr and Culver Blvd. That portion of Elenda St will be closed to automobile traffic during the event from 7:00 - 9:00 AM.
An event along Elenda has long been a goal of the Safe Routes to School program. In 2024, the Culver City/CCUSD Liaison Committee requested Walk & Rollers explore the possibility of a one-day, open streets event along Elenda. Earth Day April 22, 2025 was selected to consolidate the tri-schools’ Earth Day activities and avoid various scheduling conflicts at the high school. Event goals include promoting student safety, educating parents, and providing student mobility and sustainability education activities.
Background
• An initial stakeholder meeting was held on January 15, 2025.
• The event was discussed and advanced at the Joint Liaison Meeting of the City of Culver City / Culver City Unified School District on January 22, 2025.
• At the February 10, 2025 City Council meeting, Council unanimously approved an up to $15,000 off-cycle special events grant for Walk n’ Rollers and designated the event a City-Sponsored event, pending special permit approval.
• Two online stakeholder meetings were held in February and another is planned for March.
• The event will be further discussed at the upcoming Joint Liaison Meeting of the City of Culver City / Culver City Unified School District meeting on March 18, 2025.
