RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Commission conduct a weeknight tour of Veterans Memorial Park, Syd Kronenthal Park, and Fox Hills Park.
BACKGROUND / DISCUSSION
PRCS Director Armando Abrego and Recreation and Community Services (RCS) Manager Dani Cullens will accompany the members of the PRCS Commission on a weeknight tour of three Culver City parks and facilities (“Weeknight Parks Tour”). Members of the City Council of the City of Culver City have also been invited to attend.
On October 22, 2022, PRCS Director Abrego and RCS Manager Francisca Castillo accompanied the members of the PRCS Commission on a Saturday tour of Blair Hills Park, Lindberg Park, and Culver West Alexander Park. The Weeknight Parks Tour will continue some of the discussions started at that Parks Tour. One of the advantages of taking a weeknight tour of the parks, is that sports leagues and other users will be out on the ballfields. This will give Commissioners an opportunity to see how the ballfields are being utilized. In addition, there should be some evening racket sport court use at the parks that the Commissioners will be visiting.
The meeting will begin outside the rear entrance of the Veterans Memorial Building, 4117 Overland Avenue, Culver City, CA 90230, at 5 PM, on Tuesday, November 15, 2022. This is the entrance where patrons can directly access the PRCS Registration Office. Time allowing, the Parks Tour will include visits to the following parks:
1. Veterans Memorial Park
2. Syd Kronenthal Park
3. Fox Hills Park
PRCS Director Abrego and RCS Manager Cullens will take tour participants to sites of recent and upcoming projects, answer questions, and provide information regarding a variety of issues relating to these specific Culver City parks and facilities. The Map of Culver City Parks and Recreation Facilities is provided as Attachment 1. The parks are numbered next to the map with the corresponding park number appearing in a black circle on the map at its location. The Parks Tour Itinerary (Attachment 2) is subject to change, depending upon traffic conditions and other factors. As with the Saturday tour, transportation is not being provided. Carpooling is encouraged for those who feel comfortable making such arrangements.
FISCAL ANALYSIS
It is anticipated that a one-day Parks Tour will have a minimal impact on PRCS Department staffing and budgetary resources.
