RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Equity & Human Relations Advisory Committee (EHRAC) discuss the creation of a Juneteenth Ad Hoc Subcommittee to plan a Juneteenth event to be presented in June 2022; (2) (if desired) for a Juneteenth Ad Hoc Subcommittee to plan a Juneteenth event program and appoint members thereto; and (3) provide direction to staff if deemed appropriate.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
During the February 22, 2022 regular meeting, Chair Rona achieved consensus to agendize this item during the March 22, 2022 regular meeting.
The Equity and Human Relations Advisory Committee (EHRAC) held a virtual Juneteenth event in June 2021. The event included poetry, music selection, brief history of Juneteenth and interactive dances and games.
Once an Ad Hoc Subcommittee is formed, members would brainstorm a Juneteenth event program to discuss and receive approval from the entire committee. After reaching consensus, the EHRAC would hold a Juneteenth event this June.
