BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

In response to the request of area residents, Public Works staff considered the establishment of the Slow Street Program designation on Lafayette Pl between Braddock Dr and Lucerne Ave and proceeded with circulation of the attached Courtesy Notification prior to placement of the temporary signs posted at entry and exit points of the subject street segment.

In response to the notification, the City received a very strongly worded complaint from a Lafayette Pl resident.

When the Slow Street Program was first initiated in October 2020, the community consultation process was carried out by volunteer residents and the Program was approved by City Council in four residential areas/corridors. Presently, community members in support of the additional application of the Slow Street Program on Lafayette Pl expressed their desire to proceed with a speedy implementation without additional community consultation and/or Council approval.
