BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Culver City’s Public Works Department applied for and was awarded a state grant for the development of a Local Road Safety Plan (LRSP) for the purpose of assessing safety conditions citywide and recommending an action plan covering infrastructure and non-infrastructure improvements. TJKM Consultants were retained to assist staff with the development of the LRSP.
Some of the draft LRSP recommendations have already been featured in numerous recent grant applications and the City has been awarded three of the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) grants.
An earlier draft of the LRSP was circulated for review and feedback to multiple City departments, Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee, Culver City Unified School District, Walk n Roller School Safety Program, Bike Culver City, and Women on Bikes. TJKM Consultants then made revisions to the draft based on this feedback. At the August 10, 2021 meeting of the Mobility, Traffic & Parking Subcommittee, the Committee recommended additional changes and, with such changes, recommended approval to the City Council.
Staff is now seeking final review and input from the Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee and soliciting additional public comment. The Final Draft LRSP is currently scheduled for Council consideration at the September 13, 2021 City Council meeting.
