RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Equity & Human Relations Advisory Committee (EHRAC) discuss the creation of an ad hoc subcommittee to provide educational readings during the summer concert series; and (2) provide direction to staff if deemed appropriate.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

On May 25, 2021, EHRAC member Morgan made a motion to agendize this item and was passed.  He called and spoke with Boulevard Music and informed him that they are not hosting music at City Hall this summer.

Member Morgan would like the EHRAC to discuss having a special guest speak at music concerts at City Hall. A special guest would share a story, poem, art, and/or song that addresses their unique experience and/or cultural identity. This would be done at the beginning or a brief intermission during the concert.

The purpose is to promote equity and inclusion through education of different intersectional identities. Ideally someone who identifies outside of the stereotypical “norm” would do the presentation or brief performance.

FISCAL ANALYSIS
