RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the General Plan Advisory Committee receive a presentation on and discuss public safety in Culver City, with the Chief's Advisory Panel (CAP), and the Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE) employee team.
BACKGROUND
On June 22, 2020, the City Council Ad Hoc Police Liaison Subcommittee recommended that City Council authorize the development of a task force to review all public safety services, resources, and responsibilities. The City Council ultimately directed the City Manager's Office to lead a comprehensive study and bring back recommendations to City Council on options to reimagine public safety in Culver City. These recommendations would be made based on collaboration with affected City departments and labor representatives, feedback from the Chief's Advisory Panel, General Plan Advisory Committee, Finance Advisory Committee, members of the Government Alliance on Race and Equity, and the broader community, as well as other qualitative data collected from City consultants.
