RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the Finance Advisory Committee (FAC) discuss budget and policy impacts of City of Culver City Public Safety reform and reorientation.

BACKGROUND / DISCUSSION

At the City Council Meeting on July 13, 2020, Assistant City Manager Serena Wright presented a proposal to the City Council to work with consultants and an internal team to develop a project work plan, gather data pertaining to services, programs, budgets and staffing, facilitate review meetings with the Police Chief's Advisory Panel, the Finance Advisory Committee, members of GARE, and other community members or organizations and, ultimately, prepare and present recommendations to the City Council regarding Public Safety services and resources.

The FAC held initial discussion regarding this item in conjunction with its proposed Work Plan at the July 15th Meeting, with the aim of additional information gathering regarding policy and budget impacts of how other jurisdictions are initially approaching public safety reform. The FAC has invited guests to assist informing the Committee in effort to prepare for a future Joint FAC/Chief Advisory Panel (CAP) Meeting tentative scheduled for September 24, 2020.
