RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the General Plan Advisory Committee receive and discuss presentations on existing housing, land use, and urban design in Culver City.


BACKGROUND

A special meeting of the GPAC was held June 30, 2020, focused on equity, community safety, and policing as part of the General Plan Update (GPU). A regular meeting of the GPAC was held on July 9, 2020, focused on existing socioeconomic and market conditions and the arts, culture, and creative economy in the city.


DISCUSSION

Veronica Tam and Associates, the housing subconsultant for the GPU, will provide an overview of the following housing topics:

? Current housing conditions in Culver City
? New State housing laws
? Housing Element update + Regional Housing Needs Assessment

Perkins + Will, the urban design subconsultant for the GPU, will provide an overview of the following land use and urban design topics:

? Jobs-housing balance
? Diversity of housing and commercial types
? City structure
? Parcel size and recent growth
? Neighborhoods and existing development types

Unlike previous GPAC meetings which included longer existing conditions presentations, the project team will give short presentations synthesizing key issues and opportunities identified in the existing conditions reports and highlighting key topics/questions for discussion.
