RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager or Designee to execute any actions necessary for the purpose of obtaining financial assistance provided by the State of California Department of Transportation State of Good Repair Program.


BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

The Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, Senate Bill (SB) 1 (Chapter 5, Statues of 2017), signed by the Governor on April 28, 2017, includes a program that will provide additional revenues for transit infrastructure repair and service improvements. This investment in public transit will be referred to as the State of Good Repair program. This program provides funding of approximately $110 million annually to the State Transit Assistance (STA) Account. These funds are to be made available for eligible transit maintenance, rehabilitation and capital projects.

SB1 named the State Department of Transportation as the administrative agency for these funds, and emphasizes the importance of accountability and transparency in the delivery of California's transportation programs.
