RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council adopt a Resolution supporting and declaring Clean Air Day on October 2, 2019 (Attachment 1), or provide alternate direction as deemed appropriate.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
At the July 8, 2019 City Council Meeting, Council Member Lee discussed Clean Air Day in October. A brief discussion ensued between staff and Council Members regarding various ways to participate in Clean Air Day, including, but not limited to, adoption of a resolution in support; participation by local businesses by encouraging employees to walk or take public transportation; and implementation of a Free Fare Day. Thereafter, City Council reached consensus to direct staff to place an item on a future agenda regarding this matter.
California Clean Air Day is a multifaceted program built on the idea that shared experiences unite people to action to improve our community health. This statewide effort allows individuals and communities throughout California to participate in ways that make sense for them. Clean Air Day is a project of the Coalition for Clean Air ("CCA").
