RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council approve the final plans and specifications and authorize the publication of a notice inviting bids for the Traffic Signal Re-Wiring Project, PZ-429 and Traffic Signal Construction at Washington Boulevard and Cattaraugus Avenue, PL-003.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Traffic Signal Re-Wiring Project, PZ-429:
The Public Works Department operates and maintains 102 fully functional traffic signals and 3 pedestrian actuated signals in the city. Several of the existing traffic signals were installed many decades ago and are showing signs of deterioration in terms of conduit and wiring condition, which often affect the reliability of the signal operation.
This project will upgrade the traffic signal wires from deteriorated single conductor wires to multi-conductor cables, which would ease the maintenance and troubleshooting effort and improve the reliability of traffic signals at the following three major intersections:
1. Sepulveda Boulevard and Centinela Avenue.
2. Washington Boulevard/ Washington Place/Zanja/Wade Street
3. Slauson Avenue and Hannum Avenue
