RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council award a construction contract in the amount of $144,390 to GM Sager Construction Company Inc., as the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, for the Colonial Avenue Alley Paving, PZ-295, Community Development Block Grant Project # 601891-17 and authorize the Public Works Director/City Engineer to approve change orders in an amount not-to-exceed $36,098.


BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

The project will pave the alley bounded by Colonial Avenue and Centinela Avenue between Washington Boulevard and Washington Place. The extent of the alley to be paved starts on Colonial Ave then runs parallel on the east side of Colonial Ave for approximately 500 linear feet to the future site of the proposed Market Place project. The existing unpaved alley will be constructed with asphalt with a concrete gutter in the middle for drainage. CivilSource, (selected from the City's on-call consultant list) prepared the final plans and construction bid documents.

On February 26, 2018 the City Council approved the plans, specifications and authorized staff to publish a notice inviting bids for the project.
